Artist Statement

                                                                Artist Philosphy

I work in several mediums; primarily watercolor and oil. Some effects of radiancy and transparency can only be achieved with watercolor. My preference is oil if I'm painting in the Impressionist style. Since the grace and symmetry of the human form has always intrigued me, my favorite subjects are people.

It is my philosophy in art to enhance that which is sometimes subtle in nature or reality. For example, the use of colors much deeper and brilliant than in its natural state. Paintings that are photo realism are void of the feeling that can be captured only by the mind of the artist. My goal is to always invoke mood with a hint of surrealism rather than realism. Art should reflect the atist's own view of life. A painting should tell a story without words, although it may be a different story to different people. A painter creates pictures, but an artist creates emotion. My personal style was most influenced by my admiration of the work by the Impressionist Masters such as August Renoir, Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, and Paul Guaghin. I particularly like the simplicity of Cassatt's portraits. I am also very impressed by Goya's dramatic frescos.
